7:00–8:30 AM

All players, including advance registrants, must check in by 8:30 AM to be paired in Round 1. 

🕒 Approximate Round Schedule**: 

Round 1 — 9:00 AM
Round 2 — 9:55 AM
Round 3 — 10:50 AM
Round 4 — 11:45 AM
Round 5 — 12:40 PM

🍽️ 1-Hour Lunch Break

Round 6 — 2:20 PM
Round 7 — 3:15 PM
Round 8 — 4:10 PM
Round 9 — 5:05 PM
Round 10 — 6:00 PM

**Each round may start earlier or later depending on the duration of each round. Round 6 will start precisely at 2:20 PM.

½ Byes: 

Up to two ½-point byes available.

• Rounds 5 and 6 only

• Intended for an extended lunch or break

• Must be requested before the start of Round 4

💵 Entry Fee:

$20 — advance registration by 10:00 PM Friday, December 18.
$25 — thereafter / walk-in.

Advance registration locks in the $20 rate.

⚠️ All entry fees must be paid in CASH at check-in.

🏆 Prizes:

$150 Guaranteed, adjusted up based on entry fees

🥇 1st — $50
🥈 2nd — $25

♟ U1800 — $25
♟ U1500 — $25
♟ U1200 — $25

🎯 Biggest Upset — $20 with 12+ paid entrants.

📈 Prize Fund Growth:

• 80% of the entry fees collected after the first $470 will be added to the prize fund.

• The additional prize money will be distributed proportionally among all advertised prizes, including Biggest Upset, according to their base prize amounts.

• Scaled prizes are rounded down to the nearest whole dollar; any remainder is added to 1st place.

📊 Rating / Prize Eligibility

The higher of the December 2026 US Chess Regular or Quick rating supplement will be used for:

• Pairings

• Prize eligibility

• Biggest Upset calculations

🎯 Biggest Upset = largest rating-point difference in a played win.

• Unrated players are not eligible for Biggest Upset

• Biggest Upset ties split

• Biggest Upset may be won in addition to a place/class prize

• Unrated players are eligible for 1st and 2nd place prizes only

🏅 Place / Class Prize Rules

Place/class prizes do not stack.

Each player receives the highest-value place/class prize for which they are eligible.

If two eligible prizes are equal in value, prizes are awarded in this order:

1st → 2nd → U1800 → U1500 → U1200

• Tied players split prizes

• Class prizes pass to the next eligible player when necessary

♜ Equipment

⚠️ Boards, sets, and clocks are NOT provided.

Players should bring:

• A regulation tournament chess set (pieces and board)

• Digital clock with delay capability

☕ Complimentary coffee.

🥤 Water and snacks available for purchase

🍽️ Outside food and drink permitted

👨🏻‍🍳 There are plenty of restaurants within an 8 minute drive of the chess club
